They had me at “nun battling AI.” Mrs. Davis is an upcoming Peacock series from the ever-mysterious Damon Lindelof (The LeftoversWatchmen) and Tara Hernandez; both are writers on the series, and Hernandez is showrunner. And now it has a star: Betty Gilpin has signed on to play a woman caught up in what Variety described as “an exploration of faith versus technology and an epic battle of biblical and binary proportions.”

Again: “nun battling AI.”

Gilpin is probably best known for her role on GLOW, but SFF fans might also remember her as Laura Moon’s erstwhile bestie Audrey on American Gods (above)—a brief but excellent and memorable role. She was also recently in Amazon’s Chris Pratt action flick The Tomorrow War, and starred in the Lindelof-produced The Hunt.

Lindelof obviously has a long track record with SFF and genre-adjacent work, from Lost to Star Trek: Into Darkness to Watchmen; his co-writer Hernandez is less of a known quantity, having written primarily for The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. When Mrs. Davis was first announced last year, Lindelof said, “Tara Hernandez is an astonishingly original talent. … Talking about Mrs. Davis with her was one of the few things that kept me sane through the pandemic … I can’t wait for the world to be introduced to both of them.”

Mrs. Davis also has Owen Harris (Black Mirror: San Junipero) on board as executive producer and director. No premiere date has been announced.
